About Abdulrahman A

Science and maths tutor

I have 4 years experience privately tutoring science and maths A-level and gcse level, I am a 4th year dental student, i have worked with special needs kids for 4 years.
I also have many other qualifications and experiences such as:
Carrying out the National Citizen Service has allowed me to obtain knowledge and various skills catered to helping children. During the programme, I was offered the opportunity of volunteering at a care home. Here I had to cooperate with qualified carers to accommodate the needs of the elderly. Working in this environment allowed me to understand the importance of patience and open-mindedness as one of the main activities involved spending time with the elderly. During the ‘Make Your Mark’ stage of the programme, I worked in a team to design and implement an initiative in our local community. Our aim was to promote awareness on the impact of landfill disposal on the environment. Part of our campaign included letting children draw what their impression of the environment looked like, then afterwards we showed them what the reality was so that they could persuade their parents to recycle. The activity further developed my ability to work in a team, my communication skills and improved my confidence.
After the National Citizen Service I took part in Headstart, volunteering in a programme called friends of Boston Manor where I helped support the café and organisation of park activities. While independently running the café at times, I had to serve a variety of customers including children of all ages, knowing how to communicate with different age groups was key. One of my duties during this programme was organising events such as birthday parties. Over the course of my time at the programme, we encountered several clients, some of which included carers for handicapped children. Therefore, it was an upmost priority to ensure the venue was suitable for our customers, hence the inclusion of facilities such as ramps, providing easy access to these children. This involved working in a team to adequately organise the event and it also required good time management skills for we had limited time frames.
During my A-Levels, I enrolled in a programme called the Community Sports Leadership Award (CSLA), where I organised local sports events at various primary schools. Suggesting and developing ideas was vital to the success of the events, as the primary objective was to encourage children to participate in sports. During this time, we worked independently to host several events. We received training regarding the safety of the children, some of the major focal points being active supervision and setting clear and simple safety rules.
I understood the importance of the confidentiality and its effects on the relationship and trust established between a professional and their client. This trust between parents/carers and the charity is invaluable as it allows for the most effective experience for the children. Observing several patients with their permission during my work placement at a dentistry, I was able to visually see how the nature of this relationship benefits both the professional and the client.
