About Galvarino C

Classical Guitar and Latin American Folk and Classical Guitar

I was born in Antofagasta, Chile.
Had my first guitar at the age of ten , in Salta "La Linda", the Argentinian "city of folk music". Coming from Chile with the sounds of Quilapayun , Inti-Illimani , Victor Jara and Violeta Parra I was able to learn quickly and fluently the rhythms of the Argentinian pampas.
My family moved to the UK in 1977. It was here that I became interested in the Classical Guitar, on hearing masters like Alirio Diaz, Julian Bream and John Williams play on BBC 3 radio.

In 1983 while still at Whitfield High School in Dundee, Scotland, I was heard by professor Philip Thorne (MBE) who encouraged me to study Classical Guitar at the RSAMD in Glasgow, where I graduated as a postgraduate performer and teacher.

I also composes and arranges music for various musical styles and have performed with a variety of artists.

Highlights as a session guitarist have been working with, BBC Scottish Symphony Orquestra , Houston Ballet, Rambert Ballet, BBC TV “Rab C Nesbit” (Year of Culture), Communicado – Scottish Theatre Company, Carlos Arredondo Ortiz , Rumillajta , Mauricio Venegas , Quimantu , Salsa Celtica (founder member ) , Morgan Szymanski , Finley Quaye, Sophie Ramsay.
